Glasgow Queen Street, dating from 1842, is Scotland’s third busiest rail terminus. Though its site was a bargain, disadvantages were train access by a steep tunnel and the station’s limited size. By 1881 an enlargement created its famous train shed, and soon an underground line had a Low Level station. In the 1960s suburban electrification began, and recently EGIP, the Edinburgh & Glasgow Improvement Programme, has seen High Level routes electrified. Now this stylish enhancement will give passengers an impressive welcome to Glasgow.
